Frequently Asked Questions

What is whatusersdo?

We test online or interactive content, like websites, for our clients because they want to know what you think.

Can anyone be a tester?

If you speak English you can apply as long as you are comfortable speaking your thoughts aloud. For some people this is very simple, others will get better with practice.

How much will I get paid?

If you are a member of that main whatusersdo panel, this depends on the type of test - the Available Tests page shows you how much you will be paid for doing a test before you start.

If you have joined whatusersdo through a customer branded panel, you may be rewarded directly by the customer in the form of vouchers or similar.

How and when will I get paid?

If you are a member of the main whatusersdo panel we generally process payment on the 25th day of each calendar month (not counting weekends and public holidays in England). You will need a paypal account or a UK bank account.

You can check your oustanding balance here.

If you are a member of a customer branded panel and that customer has elected to reward you directly (perhaps in the form of vouchers), the payment will be made by them to you directly at timescales they set.

What happens when I do a test?

Once you've been approved as a tester you will be emailed when a new test is available for you. You then go to our website, log in and you will be shown the task for that test, for example "Look for a holiday" or "Find a local plumber".

If you want to do the test we check that your microphone is working and give you a link to click on to start the test. We then record your spoken thoughts and screen movements as you complete the test. Once you've finished you click on a link to upload your test to us (which can take a few minutes).

How long do tests last?

Tests usually last up to 20 minutes, but this does vary.
