Sky UX Test a new Social product with WhatUsersDo

 

Background

Sky plc is a British-based pan-European satellite broadcasting, on-demand Internet streaming media, broadband and telephone services company headquartered in London, with operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy.

Objectives

Sky was working with their agency Jam to prototype a groundbreaking TV Facebook channel App. The teams were absorbed in making the channel as exciting and innovative as possible, however, were not including the user voice in the project. Jam commissioned WhatUsersDo to support them throughout the lifecycle of the project in ensuring that the new App drives further adoption of SKY service and programming – the overall key objective of the initiative.

Tasks, challenges & conclusions

The initial rounds of testing involved profiling of Sky customers, Virgin Media and free to air digital TV customers. We then tested a number of key journeys across a number of device types to give the broadest and deepest identification of issues possible for the project.

Overall the designs tested well and this independent validation of the new prototype has given both teams confidence but as is always the case with UX Testing we also surfaced some interesting/unexpected user issues that the client was not aware of, along with some support for new features that the client have considered. It was crucial for this project that the profiles of testers across all the rounds of testing were an exact match for typical Sky customers.
